295,000 Kias Recalled for Fire Risk

Kia is recalling six models 2011-2015 due to engine compartment fire risk. Engine compartment fires may occur. Kia currently has not identified the cause of these fires, though is recalling vehicles as a preventive measure to mitigate any unreasonable fire risk to oil or fuel leaks, or engine damage.

The Safety Recall Report Report 20V-750, reporting recalls on Six models of Kia vehicles: Forte and Forte Koup, Optima Hybrid, Sorento, Soul, and Sportage. It’s currently estimated that 1% will have the defect.

The Defect

Kia currently has not identified the cause of these engine compartment fires and is recalling vehicles as a preventive measure to mitigate any unreasonable fire risk to oil or fuel leaks, or engine damage.

Dealers will conduct an inspection of the engine compartment for fuel or oil leaks, perform an engine test and make any repairs, and updates including engine replacement, if necessary. This recall is anticipated to begin January 27, 2021. Kia will notify owners.
