Raising the Bar with Aleksas Barauskas
In this episode of Raising the Bar, host Alan Pickert sits down with Aleksas Barauskas, the head of the Business Litigation Department at Terrell Hogan Law. Aleksas shares his insights into the world of business disputes, his hands-on approach to client representation, and the importance of personalized legal strategies. Below is the interview in a question-and-answer format:

Q: What does business litigation encompass?
A: Business litigation involves handling any type of business dispute. This can include matters related to contracts, warranties, and other business-related agreements. We represent plaintiffs and defendants alike—if it’s business-related, we can help.

Q: Do you handle cases outside of Florida?
A: Yes, I’m licensed in Florida, Georgia, and Texas, and we handle cases across the country. For example, I currently have a case pending in Missouri. If I’m not admitted in a particular state, I can become admitted for that matter or find someone who can assist.

Q: How do clients typically find you?
A: I’ve never advertised. My practice grows through word of mouth. Satisfied clients return with new matters or refer their friends and colleagues. It’s all about building trust and delivering results.

Q: Do you represent only companies, or do you also work with individuals?
A: We represent a mix of clients, including individuals, small businesses, and large corporations. If it’s a business-related issue, we’re here to help.

Q: To what do you attribute your track record of success?
A: We treat each case uniquely, tailoring our approach to the specific circumstances. We work closely with our clients to understand their goals and pressure points. Together, we develop a strategy that evolves over time to achieve the best possible outcome.

Q: Do you personally work on all your cases?
A: Absolutely. I know every detail of every case I handle. My clients deal directly with me, and I’m always available to answer their questions. That personal connection is key to effective representation.

Q: How long does a typical commercial litigation trial take?
A: Cases can take years to resolve, with trials lasting days or weeks depending on the complexity. Every case is different, and timelines can vary significantly.

Q: Are you taking new clients?
A: Yes, I am. If someone has a business-related legal issue, I’m happy to evaluate their case personally.

Q: What do you do to relax in your free time?
A: My two young boys, aged five and almost seven, keep me busy. I also stay active by doing CrossFit, which helps me manage my energy when I’m not working.

Q: How long have you been practicing law?
A: I’ve been practicing for about 15 years, focusing on business litigation and related matters.

Q: How can clients contact you?
A: Clients can call or text me directly on my cell phone at (727) 688-4049. I’m based at Terrell Hogan Law, located on Bay Street in downtown Jacksonville, Florida.

Q: Do you handle bankruptcy cases?
A: Yes, we handle bankruptcy cases, particularly when we need to pursue opponents into bankruptcy. We’re equipped to manage those situations seamlessly.

Q: What makes your approach to business litigation unique?
A: My clients can trust that I’ll personally handle their case. When they hire me, they’re hiring someone who will take on their stress and focus on achieving the best outcome, allowing them to concentrate on what they do best.
