Millions of Airbags Recalled

Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Honda, BMW and GM are are recalling 3.4 million vehicles worldwide because airbags supplied by Takata Corp are at risk of catching fire or injuring passengers due to “over aggressive” propellants in canisters that inflate air bags and that could throw off shrapnel or cause bags to rip or tear.
Owners of older Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, GM and BMW automobiles have been asked to take their cars to dealerships. The mechanics may need to replace faulty canisters that contain the propellant that activates air bags.
The following vehicles are involved:
Toyota:  Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Sequoia, Tundra and Lexus SC 430 from 2001 to 2003.
Honda:  Civics, CR-Vs and Odysseys from 2001 to 2003.
Nissan: Maxima, Pathfinder and Sentra,  Infiniti I35 and QX4 from 2001 to 2003.
Mazda: Mazda6 sedans from 2003 and 2004 and the 2004 RX-8.
GM: 2003 Pontiac Vibe (See Toyota link above).
BMW: No specific auto information has been released.  Contact a BMW dealer.
