11/22/10 – Bassett recalls 90K cribs for dangerous rails

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Monday announced another crib recall of  90,000 Bassettbaby cribs because they are unsafe due to their moveable sides that could detach from the crib.  More than 9 million cribs have been recalled since 2005 because of potential problems with “drop side” rails, which move up and down to make it easier for parents to lift a child out of the crib. Since 2000, at least 32 infants or toddlers have suffocated or strangled after those rails detached, creating a space between the side of the crib and the mattress. Children can also fall out of the crib if the rail is detached.
