Click it or Ticket – Seat Belts Save Lives

The National Click It or Ticket 2012 safety belt enforcement  kicked off Monday, May 21, 2012.  Jacksonville, state and local law enforcement officers, highway safety advocates, and the Florida Department of Transportation  joined with the National Highway Safety Administration to strongly enforce safety belt laws around the clock. The campaign mobilization runs through June 3, but motorists are advised that officers enforce safety belt law year-round.
With  the busy Memorial Day weekend approaching, law enforcement agencies across Florida are launching the 11th annual Click It or Ticket campaign  on unbuckled drivers and passengers.  This year, there will be zero tolerance and round-the-clock checks for motorists who do not wear their safety belt.  In 2011 Florida passed a safety belt law that allows law enforcement officers to pull motorists over who fail to buckle up.
Click It or Ticket’s program has been very successful.   In 2005 almost 74% of Floridians were buckling up.  In 2010, that number had increased to 87.4%.   But, Click It or Ticket’s work is not done until 100% of  Floridians buckle up.
Click It or Ticket is a cooperative effort of The Florida Department of Transportation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and law enforcement agencies across the state.
