Wayne Hogan on First Coast News to Spread Word: Don’t Text and Drive

Attorney Wayne Hogan has been busy getting the message out about Ending Distracted Driving. He recently talked about the common practice – that he calls an epidemic – on First Coast News.
As part of The End Distracted Driving Student Awareness Initiative, he is trying to save lives by giving presentations to local teens, sharing the stark realities and repercussions of killing someone from driving distracted. Talking on your cell phone while driving increases your crash risk 4x – the same as if you drove drunk – and by 23x if you’re texting.
With 5,000 lives tragically stolen each year from distracted drivers, Florida is one of only a handful of states that does not ban hand-held cell phone usage or texting while driving. Hogan predicts that in the future, prosecutors will bring manslaughter charges when texting while driving causes a death.
The End Distracted Driving Student Awareness Initiative was created by The Casey Feldman Foundation in honor of her legacy after she was killed by a distracted driver as she crossed the street. The educational campaign, held in April, was such a success, the firm is continuing to make the presentations on request as it sees this as an important public service. If you’re interested in a presentation, contact Terrell Hogan Law at 632-2424.
