Due to the favorable climate and terrain, many Floridians use bicycles as a source of recreation and enjoyment. However, bicyclists should be aware of traffic conditions where they are required to ride on the roadway.Bicycle riders less than age (16) must wear a safety helmet and bicycles on the roadway have most of the same rights and duties as drivers of motor vehicles.Should an injury occur as a result of an automobile striking a bicycle rider, the bicycle rider falls under the provisions of the Florida No-Fault Law and coverage could be provided under the household auto.If the operator of the automobile is negligent and the bicycle rider receives serious and permanent injuries, that rider could bring a claim against the owner and the operator of the motor vehicle.
