The Food and Drug Administration has announced that it was revoking its approval of the drug Avastin for breast cancer after concluding that it “has not been shown to be safe and effective for that use.”
Avastin, made by the pharmaceutical company Roche, will remain an approved treatment for certain types of colon, lung, kidney and brain cancer, the F.D.A. commissioner, Margaret A. Hamburg, announced.
