If you take the generic version of Lipitor called “Ranbaxy,” you should call or return it to the pharmacy where you filled the prescription to find out if it’s been recalled.  The maker of Ranbaxy has recalled 41 lots of generic Lipitor (atorvastatin) because of  concerns that the drug may contain small glass particles.
The FDA says the glass particles are so small they are unlikely to cause safety concerns, but the possibility of harm cannot be ruled out.
For safety sake, it is being recommended that if your medication is listed in the recall, you should return it for an exchange.  The recall affects 10 mg, 20 mg and 40 mg strengths of the drug.
