176,749 Jeep Cherokees Recalled for Unintended Air Bag Deployment

Chrysler is recalling 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokees because the curtain and seat air bags could deploy while the vehicle is in motion, causing a crash. According to Chrysler, the “vehicles can achieve vehicle angles during off-road driving events which may exceed the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module rollover calibration thresholds,” which means that the vehicle OCR thinks the car is rolling over in certain off-road conditions and deploys the air bags.   Chrysler says an upgrade to the vehicles’ software will correct the defect.
