Over 1.1 Million Dodge Charger, Jeep Cherokee, Chrysler 300 Recalled for Defective Shifter

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recalling 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2012-2014 Dodge Charger, and the 2012-2014 Chrysler 300s after an investigation to correct a problem with their shifters, which has allowed some owners to exit their vehicles without putting them in “PARK”.
The way the shifters work is confusing to vehicle owners, because they operate with indicator lights and not the position of the shifter. Unknowingly, drivers exited the vehicles without correctly shifting into park. NHTSA said that the vehicle may not adequately warn the driver when driver’s door is opened and the vehicle is not in PARK, allowing them to exit the vehicle while the vehicle is still in gear and drivers believing the car is in PARK have been struck by the vehicle and injured. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is reporting 41 injuries due to the vehicles rolling away.
Owners will be sent recall notifications by mail however they are being strongly encouraged to take extra care to ensure that their vehicles are in “PARK” before exiting. Click here for NHTSA Recall.
