National Transportation Safety Board Recommends Ban on Cell Phone Use

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has called for a ban nationwide on the use of cell phones and text messaging devices while driving. This recommendation is the most comprehensive issued by the NTSB, which has increasingly sought to limit the use of portable electronic devices. The recommendation would outlaw non-emergency cell phone usage and texting by any driver of any vehicle on the road. However, it would not apply to hands-free devices or to passengers in a vehicle. Many states already have laws prohibiting cell phones and text messaging devices while driving.
