“This is about saving lives, a life lost because a child doesn’t know how to swim is a family and community tragedy.” Wayne Hogan said this when Waterproof Jacksonville was announced by Mayor Alvin Brown in May. Hogan saw Waterproof Jacksonville in action when he visited kids at Woodland Acres Elementary School who are learning how to swim this summer
The citywide campaign teaches kids to swim with the goal of preventing accidental drowning. It received a huge lift through the Jacksonville personal injury attorney’s financial support; Waterproof Jacksonville doubled the free swimming lessons for students attending summer school at Woodland Acres Elementary.
Waterproof Jacksonville is a partnership with Safe Kids Northeast Florida, the City of Jacksonville, Duval County public schools and several recognized swim organi¬zations and businesses that share in a commitment to provide free lessons to children whose families cannot afford them otherwise. Lessons are offered throughout the summer at community pools in Jacksonville.
The more lessons Waterproof Jacksonville gives, the more we protect our kids. That’s why Hogan encourages other businesses and civic groups to partner with the City to help even more kids learn how to swim. Contact Jax Parks for more information.
