2014 JALA Equal Justice Event

On January 21, 2015, Wayne Hogan of Terrell • Hogan again sponsored Jacksonville Area Legal Aid’s Equal Justice Event. Terrell • Hogan attorneys Bruce Anderson, Leslie Scott Jean-Bart and Leslie A. Goller joined Hogan that night. Hogan, the 1999 Equal Justice Award Honoree, introduced and, along with Steve Fahlgren, JALA Board President and now newly-appointed circuit court judge, presented attorney Bob Spohrer the 2014 Equal Justice Award for his dedication to JALA’s mission. Wayne provided personal insight into Bob Spohrer’s accomplishments – in the law and in the community.
Terrell • Hogan has always supported JALA’s mission of providing civil legal assistance to low-income persons, whether with donations, pro-bono hours, or membership on its board of directors. With thirty attorneys and a thirty year history of providing high-quality legal representation in a variety of service areas, JALA is an integral part of our community’s infrastructure.
JALA Board member Marianna Smith attended. She is the former Executive Director of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, now the American Association for Justice, comprised of trial lawyers, including Terrell • Hogan attorneys, who are committed to providing excellent advocacy for their clients and advocating for an accessible and balanced civil justice system.
It is important to remark on the economic challenges JALA is facing. Funding has been severely cut due to economic hard times and, JALA has had to cut back its staff and close its doors one day a week. This means less legal assistance for those in need in our community. Any financial assistance to this very important organization is greatly needed, and much appreciated. Without it, Justice cannot be served in the North Florida area. More information about JALA can be found here.

Leslie has dedicated her career to championing consumers – whether they were harmed by big corporations, dangerous products, medical mistakes, accidents, or an unsafe environment – no issue is too big for her to tackle. She successfully prevented an incinerator from being built at University Hospital (now UF-Jacksonville), which would have polluted the air with toxic chemicals and obtained significant restrictions of other Jacksonville hospital incinerators resulting in cleaner air.
