Profile: Timothy D. Ellis – Working for Change in the Courtroom and the Community

In his profession and in his community, Tim Ellis has dedicated himself to improving the lives of others. He strives to be an advocate and champion for positive change.

During more than 25 years fighting for victims’ rights at Terrell Hogan, Tim has represented hundreds of local residents, helping them to achieve justice with cases involving medical malpractice, products liability, government claims and automobile-related accidents.

Tim serves the injured, often teaming up with Terrell Hogan’s Christopher Burns, providing clients a powerful combination of experience and tenacity. Tim insists upon maintaining a personal involvement in every case, preferring to develop relationships with each of his clients.

While his ultimate goal is to ensure his clients receive full compensation for their injuries, Tim also looks for innovative ways to assert influence beyond a single case. He says his clients’ injuries are often results of inadequate or flawed systems, and by taking a creative approach, they can institute change, helping to ensure others are protected in the future.

One example of this is conspicuously displayed in Tim’s office. It’s a full-size IV pole, and he’ll tell you that they don’t make ‘em like they used to … and that’s a good thing. The razor sharp edges at the base of the pole rolled over and cut through the Achilles tendon of his client, a R.N. at a local hospital. Thanks to Tim’s diligence on the case, you’ll now find smarter, rounded edges to rolling IV poles. Not only did he fight for his client’s rights, but also he fought to ensure the manufacturer’s flawed and harmful design wouldn’t harm anyone else.

In a similar instance, Tim worked on a malpractice case involving a local hospital. The resolution required the hospital to rewrite its procedures to ensure similar accidents would be prevented in the future.

Tim is also committed to making an impact to improve the community he calls home. He grew up at the Beaches, attending Fletcher High School, where he quarterbacked the Senators. And he continues to serve as an active, involved resident, often working behind the scenes to ensure the area remains a special place to live and raise a family.

Tim’s commitment includes work alongside several active residents who conceived and successfully achieved the rebuilding and placement of a prized area landmark, the Jacksonville Beach Pier. Additionally, Tim recently completed his term as president of the Ponte Vedra Community Association, where he placed a special emphasis on improving public safety, including better sidewalks and beach access. He is a board member of the Beaches Area Historical Society and a charter member of the local WaveMasters Society.

Tim lives in Ponte Vedra Beach with his wife. The couple met while attending Stetson University College of Law. Also an attorney, Teri practices commercial litigation at a Beaches-area firm. The couple has two daughters, Ashley and Whitney.
